President George W. Bush tapped his former trade chief and No. 2 diplomat, Robert Zoellick, to run the World Bank.
*****************************************************
Zoellick,[ a bilderberger] 53, would succeed Wolfowitz, who is stepping down June 30 after findings by a special bank panel that he broke bank rules when he arranged a hefty compensation package in 2005 for his girlfriend, Shaha Riza, a bank employee.

Zoellick would succeed Wolfowitz, who is stepping down June 30

The controversy which had caused a staff revolt and strained U.S. relations with Europeans and other countries had led calls for Wolfowitz to resign from the poverty-fighting institution.

The president said Zoellick has a long career in diplomacy that has prepared him well for the job. "Bob Zoellick is deeply committed to this cause," the president said.

In announcing the choice of Zoellick, Bush also had praise for Wolfowitz's performance as head of the bank.

A seasoned veteran of politics both in the Washington milieu and on the international stage, Zoellick is known for pulling facts and figures off the top of his head. He also has a reputation for being a demanding boss.

Bush's selection of Zoellick must be approved by the World Bank's 24-member board.

Internationally, the reaction was generally positive, although some health groups and others expressed misgivings about his ability to carry out the institution's mission.

Zoellick announced last June that he was leaving his post as deputy secretary of state to join the Wall Street firm of Goldman Sachs and work to develop investment markets around the world.[please note: Goldman Sachs]

If ultimately approved as World Bank chief, Zoellick will need to regain trust, rebuild credibility and mend frayed relations inside the institution as well as with its member countries around the world.

The bank's new leader will have to persuade countries to contribute nearly $30 billion (EUR22.4 billion) over the next few years to fund a centerpiece bank program that provides interest-free loans to the world's poorest countries.

Zoellick could build upon strong relations he has developed worldwide as deputy secretary and U.S. Trade Representative. He was involved in peace talks in Sudan, and as USTR he played a key role in negotiations to bring China into the World Trade Organization. He forged free trade deals between the United States and other countries, including Singapore, Chile, Australia and Morocco.

Before taking the helm in 2005, Wolfowitz was the No. 2 official at the Pentagon and played a major role in mapping out the war in Iraq. From the beginning, Europeans and others were upset that Bush would pick someone to run the bank who was so closely associated with the war.

(see article former page)
********************************************************
French daily Le Figaro yesterday predicted that new French President Nicholas Sarkozy wouldn t veto Turkey beginning European Union accession talks on new three chapters. According to the newspaper, Sarkozy sent his top advisor Jean David-Levitte to Ankara this week in order to find a way to head off damage to relations between the two countries. /Turkiye/

GERMAN FM: EUROPE NEEDS TURKEY
German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier yesterday declared that Europe needs Turkey. Stating that Turkey has assumed the role of a bridge between Europe and the Middle East, the German foreign minister dismissed as a baseless allegations that Turkey s negotiations with the European Union would end in failure. Speaking before the opening ceremony of the Europe-Asia Meeting (ASEM) attended by foreign ministers from 26 EU and 16 Asian countries, Steinmeier stated that Europe needs Turkey. He added that the Turkish reform process must continue. /The New Anatolian

I am a producer with a documentary crew that is documenting Jim Tucker at the Bilderberg Conference this year.

We waited in the lobby of his Hotel for him to arrive. Before and after his arrival we noticed a man sneaking pictures of our crew and the other people waiting for Mr. Tucker. The man's behavior was very strange.

Jim was interviewed by some local press. Afterward, I met for drinks with a few local journalists that have taken interest (in a event they are not allowed to report). These journalists told me that the location is the Ritz-Carlton (near the Taxim square in Istanbul) and not at the Klasis. They said Channel 24 is covering the event and will have a television crew at the Carlton in the morning. I hope this is true as the Carlton is more accessible than the Klassis.

We'll see.

Goodnight.

Rick Perry's Bilderberg Visit Violation Of Logan Act?
Texas Governor's visit to ultra secret elitist group could be criminal, press secretary refuses to comment
Paul Joseph Watson
Prison Planet
Thursday, May 31, 2007

Texas Governor Rick Perry is amongst the attendees at this year's secretive Bilderberg Group meeting in Istanbul Turkey, but his visit could be a violation of the Logan Act, a 1799 law that criminalizes unauthorized U.S. citizens from negotiating with foreign governments.

***************

"Gov. Rick Perry is flying to Istanbul, Turkey, today to speak at the super-secret Bilderberg Conference, a meeting of about 130 international leaders in business, media and politics," reports the Dallas Morning News.
"Robert Black, the governor's press secretary, said the governor was invited to attend and speak about state-federal relations. Mr. Black dismissed the conspiracy theories."

"He's looking forward to learning the secret handshake," Mr. Black joked."
Sophomoric joking aside, Perry's attendance at a behind closed doors, and armed guards, meeting, in which the content of what is discussed will remain totally secret is a potential violation of the Logan Act.

The Logan Act states, "Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both."

The Logan Act also bars public officials from meeting with private citizens to make policy, a crime for which the Clinton White House was fined $300,000 for, according to Bilderberg sleuth Jim Tucker.

Rick Perry seems to have attempted to get ahead of accusations that he was violating the act in making the visit by claiming the trip was paid for out of campaign contributions and not by taxpayers, but this is inconsequential.

Perry's press secretary declined to give a statement when we called and denied any knowledge of the Logan Act, yet seemed to be fully aware of it in claiming Bilderberg was a private meeting. Since the Logan Act also bars private citizens from negotiating with foreign officials, Perry is still violating the law.

The fact that Bilderberg has a proven track record of creating consensus for policy that is enacted shortly down the line also betrays the group as wholly undemocratic and criminal in its secrecy, further violating the Logan Act.

The BBC uncovered documents form a former Bilderberg member dating back to the early 50's betraying the fact that the European Union and the single Euro currency were both brainchild's of the Bilderberg Group.

At the 2005 Bilderberg meeting in Munich Germany, leaked talking points obtained from the speeches given at the conference indicated that Bilderberg expected oil prices to surge over the next 12 months, which is exactly what happened.

Bilderberg has a proven history of acting in a kingmaker capacity. Both Bill Clinton and Tony Blair attended before becoming President and Prime Minister and the mainstream media reported that Bilderberg selected John Edwards as Kerry's running mate in 2004. Hillary Clinton was rumored to have attended last year's conference.

Hi marektysis and all,

I am new here. I found this forum through searching for Bilderberg.

As a Texan, imagine my surprise when I find out that our humble Governor is scheduled to speak at the Bilderberg conference. I saw this first at Alex' site and was shocked to see that it was reported in a mainstream Dallas newspaper. Needless to say, I have not seen it reported on the Houston TV news.

This is the governor who recently pushed very hard to try to pass legislation that all Texas women must take an HPV vaccination that was quite controversial in it's effectiveness. It was defeated after a loud outcry from the public. It would have made Merck billions of dollars had it passed.
