Bilderberg Group delegate and former UK diplomat, Sir Sherard Cowper-Coles, speaks out to dispel conspiracy theories

2:50pm Monday 10th June 2013 in News By Ben Endley, Senior reporter

Bilderberg attendee: Sir Sherard Cowper-Coles
A former leading British diplomat, who attended The Bilderberg Group meeting in Watford, has spoken out to dispel the conspiracy theories surrounding its discussions.

In an interview with the Watford Observer, Sir Sherard Cowper-Coles, 58, said the group was no different to many other international forums held around the world and voiced surprise at the large protest it drew.

Sir Sherard, a former British ambassador to Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan, left public service to take up a job at BAE Systems in 2011 and was invited to Bilderberg for the first time this year.

The group, which met at The Grove hotel last week, has remained secretive for most of its 59-year history and describes itself as an off-the-record forum for leading global figures to debate the pressing issues of the day.

Bilderberg delegates rarely speak publically about their experiences during the meetings but in an in-depth interview, Sir Sherard debunked the numerous conspiracy theories surrounding the group - including that Bilderberg is a “shadow world government” seeking to supersede democracy.

He said: “I can honestly say, having been at the meeting, all the conspiracy theories are wrong.

“It was just a private discussion of the kind that takes place at conference centres all around the world, all the time.

“I don’t know [why people protest the meetings], I suppose one thing that distinguishes Bilderberg is it’s pretty high level. But I am slightly at a loss to understand exactly why it should be controversial.

“The protest wasn’t discussed during the meeting but everyone was aware of it and some parties actually went down to see the demonstrators and find out what was going on.”

The diplomat’s statements run contrary to many of the allegations made by American “shock jock” Alex Jones who gave an hour long speech to more than 1,000 people protesting in the grounds of The Grove this Saturday.

Among his numerous accusations were that the group is creating new forms of cancer in an effort to reduce the global population by 80 per cent, it invented the internet as a “panopticon spy system” and is plotting to “shut down society”.

Jones, who appeared on the BBC’s flagship Sunday Politics show yesterday and was branded “an idiot” by host Andrew Neil after repeatedly interrupting other guests while shouting his own website address.
Another speaker who addressed the Bilderberg protest on Saturday was former BBC TV presenter turned conspiracy theorist, David Icke, who alleged the group was working on a plot to microchip the human population.

This year’s Bilderberg Group meeting was attended by around 140 people - one third of which come from government and politics with the rest from academia, finance and industry.

Among this year's attendees were British Prime Minister David Cameron, Chancellor George Osborne, Google CEO Eric Schmidt, Peter Sutherland, the chairman of Goldman Sachs and former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.
Other delegates included Jose Manuel Barroso, the President of the European Commission; Christine Lagarde, the head of the IMF and Francois Fillon, the former French Prime Minister.

The arrival of the delegates in south west Hertfordshire prompted a huge security operation involving hundreds of police from Hertfordshire, Essex, City of London and the Thames Valley.

Sir Sherard also defended the private nature of the meeting, saying it was essential to maintain the ‘Chatham House Rule’ to allow open and frank discussion.

He said: “I found the experience very interesting and very valuable. We covered a wide range of topics – everything from Syria to the economic situation to British membership of the EU and even big data, which is very topical.

“It is the rule of the group that all these senior people are able to exchange views in private, it is no different from many other conferences where proceedings are conducted under what is called the Chatham House Rule.

“This means you can reveal, in broad terms, what was said but not by whom.

“It was two and a half very full days of discussion. We covered jobs and the global economic situation, growth, European politics, Africa, the Middle East, big data, medical research, nationalism, populism, online education, cyber warfare, America and the World, Syria.”

Like all delegates, Sir Sherard was named on the published list along with his present job title of business development director, international at BAE Systems. This was the first year the group published the list before the conference.
Yet, he stressed he and every other visitor was there in a personal capacity and not representing their employer or any other organisation.

Instead, he said members are selected due to credentials in a particular field – in his case it was the experience accrued in more than 30 years at the Foreign and Commonwealth office.

“Everyone is invited in their personal capacity,” he said.

“I am sure that was the case [that he was invited due to his diplomatic experience] I certainly wasn’t there representing BAE.”

The Bilderberg Group gets its name from the hotel where the first meeting was held in 1954. At the time its stated aim was to promote “Atlanticism” in the era of the rapidly-growing Soviet Union.

Almost 60 years on and faced with very different world challenges the group has not yet opened itself up to either representatives from Russia or the former Soviet republics or the rest of the world.

This rule meant at this year’s meeting a discussion on the present situation in Syria was conducted without any representatives from the war-torn country.

Asked whether the group can still be relevant without embracing the emerging economies of China and India, Sir Sherard replied: “The world faces huge challenges of unemployment, low growth, of the Euro, worries about education, worries about the conflict in the Middle East, worries about development in Africa, worries about cyber security. The list goes on and on.

“This was, as far as I can see, a serious attempt to get to grips with these issues in a serious way and in order for all these senior people to have a serious discussion it can’t be in public any more than the meetings that take place elsewhere.

“Bilderberg doesn’t pretend to be the only dialogue or to have a monopoly but these are still two pretty important areas of the world and people should be talking to each other about current issues and this continues to make sense.”

US conspiracy theorist Alex Jones lost his temper in spectacular style on live television on Saturday, accusing the Bilderberg Group of being “heavily involved in the EU plan”, which he described as a “Nazi plan” and shouting “Freedom will not stop” repeatedly to bemused guests.

Jones had been invited to appear on BBC1’s Sunday Politics show alongside Times columnist David Aaronovitch to discuss the Bilderberg Conference which took place this weekend. During his outburst, Jones said that some of his reporters had been turned away, “but they didn’t turn me back and I was told this because they don’t wanna make a stink.”

Despite presenter Andrew Neil’s best attempts at preventing Jones from talking over Aaronovitch with: “You are not going to dominate this, he gets to speak too - it’s not your own radio show”, and “Could you let him finish”, Jones still continued his outburst of conspiracy theories. At one point Jones interrupted the debate with: “We’re in a police state, it’s like 1984, you guys just want to normalise it!” to which Aaronovitch asked: “Alex, if it’s a police state how come you’re here?”

“Do you think the BBC is part of the Bilderberg group?” asked Neil, to which Jones replied: “Well, you know, Winston Smith did work here, I mean come on Eric Blair worked here and that’s what he said it was.”

Jones had become increasingly aggravated and disruptive as the interview progressed. At one point, he shouted: “Hey listen! I’m here to warn people, you keep telling me to shut up, this isn’t a game OK. Our government the US is building FEMA camps."

His rant culminated in him chanting: “Take them away. Infowars.com. Liberty is rising. Liberty is rising. Freedom will not stop. You will not stop freedom. You will not stop the republic. Humanity is awakening. Infowars.com”

A smiling Neil ended the show by saying: “You (Mr Jones) are the worst person I've ever interviewed. David (Aaronovitch), thank you for being with us”, whilst laughing and shaking his head.

KEEP THE SPOTLIGHT ON BILDERBERG
JUNE 10, 2013 AFP

• Traficant proposes new strategy to expose “stealthy operation”

By Jim Traficant

The Bilderberg group is a highly secretive body comprised of participants from Europe and North America. The group, an elitist set of corporate heads, major politicians, media moguls and financial kingpins, meets each year in guarded, closed-door luxury hotels, to determine how the world should go, to increase their already outrageous incomes.

You would probably not be apprised of the Bilderberg group were it not for a great American patriot named “Big Jim” Tucker. Jim was a writer for AMERICAN FREE PRESS and before that for The Spotlight newspaper. As a reader of AFP, you have had more information about this mysterious Bilderberg entity than all other Americans.

Jim Tucker was an American hero. He brought both The Spotlight and, literally, the spotlight, to shine on this clandestine body. Tucker carried the torch of investigative reporting to educate American people about a very suspect group of internationalists who affect the lives of many people.

Actually, Jim picked up the torch from Willis Carto, who identified this “secret cartel” and began to pursue its makeup and purpose. Carto recognized that any group consisting of top movers and shakers on the planet must have something to hide, to go through such lengths as vacating entire fivestar hotels just to hold their conferences.

That’s right, all other guests were removed. Nobody was to be in that building except those “Bilderbergers.”

Willis knew that this was an international scandal. He was right. The participants ranged from the biggest bankers in the world to government leaders. These bankers controlled the money structure impacting the entire world, including the United States.

Jim recently died, but he certainly launched a whole contingent of inquirers, ranging from radio and TV personalities to media now wanting some transparency to this hidden sort of one-world type group operating in the absolute dark with no one allowed to ask any questions or dare to unravel its agenda. Until a few years ago, its very existence was denied.

This June, the “Bilderberg boys” will be gathering again, this time in the London area. AFP has asked me to cover this stealthy operation in conjunction with Pete Papaherakles and Mark Anderson, two highly intelligent media personalities who are unafraid to tackle the tough issues. I have accepted and look forward to this endeavor.

I believe that much can be done to further shine the light on this shady outfit. I am encouraging the leaders of AFP to spearhead a new strategy in getting to the bottom of this exclusive structure.

It’s time to investigate the money trail. Who authorizes our American participants? How are they selected? Who pays the costs of their travel and housing? What part of our budget in Washington is used for these expenses? Whose budget does it come out of? Are they violating the law? Are there reports and minutes of meetings made available to our government? How does their agenda affect our future as regular citizens?

I’ve recommended a surgical-type Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) inquiry. Will our government refuse to respond? If so, why? The law requires them to respond. I maintain that U.S. dollars are being expended on this Bilderberg group, and a full accounting of it must be made to the citizens of our republic.

If Bilderberg is just a harmless social group attempting to gather consensus-type of information then there should be nothing to hide. Our government should comply with our FOIA request.

Willis and “Big Jim” Tucker turned the bright lights on for the gang of AFP. Now it’s our turn to keep that light shining.

Stay tuned, and get back at me!

The BBC sent a reporter to cover protests at the annual Bilderberg meeting held near Watford, Britain. In a video segment made available online today, the BBC reporter approached Alex Jones who was described as "King of the conspiracy theorists." When asked if there was any conspiracy theory that he rejected, Jones replied that it was the idea of an extraterrestrial cover-up. More important, according to Jones, are the globalist policies designed and orchestrated by the Bilderberg group that he wants to expose. Jones declaration was no big surprise for any that have followed his exposés on Inforwars.com or PrisonPlanet.com. Jones dismissal of an extraterrestrial cover-up, while protesting at a Bilderberg meeting is ironic since that may well be the very reason why the annual Bilderberg meeting was created in the first place.

Alex Jones disavows extraterrestrial cover-up at Bilderberg protest
First, let’s begin with what Jones actually said. The BBC reporter approached him and asked: “Are there conspiracy theories out there that you think are too nuts, are just too extreme.”

Jones replied: “Yes, I don’t personally believe there are extraterrestrials or anything like some people say.”

In the full BBC video report, Jones went on to describe a litany of globalist policies that have been orchestrated by the Bilderberg group, completely unaware of the irony of his initial response to the reporter’s question. Jones was essentially claiming that there was no connection between the annual Bilderberg meeting and conspiracy theories of an extraterrestrial cover up. Historic events and evidence, however, suggest otherwise.

The first Bilderberg meeting in 1954 had multiple reasons to convene. The public justification was that it was held to promote political and economic cooperation between Europe and North America as the best defense to what was now perceived as the long term threat of communism. To that end, prominent business and political leaders have been regularly invited to Bilderberg Group on an annual basis to discuss ways of coordinating national policies and anticipating global trends. Key personnel and agencies involved in the formation of the Bilderberg Group reveal that its hidden purpose was to encourage global cooperation in response to a perceived long term threat known to Bilderberg’s creators: the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA); the Rockefeller brothers and Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands. This long term threat was only shared on a need-to-know basis, and emanated from World War II events involving Nazi Germany’s advanced technology programs. Events which Nelson Rockefeller, and the CIA & its OSS predecessor, became deeply intimate with during and immediately after the War – Nazi attempts to reverse engineer extraterrestrial technologies for the war effort.

The main task of the Bilderberg Group was to coordinate the nations of the world so that any information gained by any nation pertaining to extraterrestrial life and technology was to be sent to the right place for research and development. A highly secretive second Manhattan project that had begun in the United States under President Truman to deal with the alien life and technologies was expanded to include other nations in a globally coordinated effort. Eisenhower’s election in November 1952, offered his chief supporters, the Rockefeller Family, the opportunity to have greater corporate involvement in the now ‘global’ Manhattan Project.

The Rockefeller brothers (Nelson and David) along with Dr Henry Kissinger, who was a protégé of the Rockefeller brothers, were instrumental in shaping the Eisenhower government’s response to extraterrestrial technologies using Cold War covert operations as a cover, and helping set up the Bilderberg Group for that purpose. The Bilderberg Group would meet to coordinate national policies so that humanity would have the best chance of surviving the challenges posed by visitation of different extraterrestrial factions with unknown agendas.

A vital part of the Bilderberg Group agenda was to ensure that the global media and national legislatures would not learn about an extraterrestrial presence, or of the coordinated national contributions to a globally coordinated Manhattan Project. Funding a global Manhattan Project, let alone the U.S. element that was at its core would be a monumental task. The global Manhattan Project would cost hundreds of billions in the 1950s, and eventually grow to trillions to fund each year. It would have to be funded in a way that the mass media and national legislatures would not discover what was happening. This funding came from diverse sources such as CIA front companies, insider trading, “black gold”, international drug trade, etc. This was a key reason why international bankers were prominent in Bilderberg Group meetings. International banking offered the means for transferring enormous sums of illicitly generated money to this unacknowledged Global Manhattan Project.

It’s ironic that Alex Jones would disavow theories of an internationally orchestrated cover-up of extraterrestrial life at the 2013 Bilderberg Group meeting. Perhaps it’s not so ironic after all. According to a recent radio interview given by Alex Jones himself, at family reunions half the people in the room are retired and former CIA – the key U.S. agency involved in the creation of the Bilderberg Group. Given evidence that the CIA has been the lead U.S. government agency orchestrating a global cover-up of information concerning extraterrestrial life, Jones anti-extraterrestrial cover-up views at a Bilderberg Group protest now make more sense. At his next family reunion Alex should have another chat with former CIA members present; and find out why, surprise, surprise, they lied to him.

two arrests made at the protest of the Bilderberg Group meeting

12:30pm Monday 10th June 2013 in News By Mike Wright, Chief Reporter

Two people were arrested at the third day of protest around the Bilderberg Group meeting, which drew more than 2,000 people.

Police said 2,012 demonstrators congregated in the grounds of The Grove hotel on Saturday to listen to speakers such as former BBC presenter David Icke and US radio presenter Alex Jones.

Hertfordshire Constabulary confirmed today two arrests were made for a drunken disorderly behaviour and another for breaching the terms of the road restrictions around the venue.

Prime Minister David Cameron, Chancellor George Osborne and shadow chancellor Ed Balls were among the guests attending the secretive meeting, which also included leading figures from world politics, banking, technology and academia.

The Bilderberg Group has been drawing growing crowds of protesters its annual meetings, from which no record of what is discussed is released.
Today police said the operation around the three-day protests, which started on Thursday, had been a “very successful”.

Assistant Chief Constable Alison Roome-Gifford, who was the lead officer for the operation, said: “Between Wednesday June 5 and Sunday June 9 Hertfordshire Constabulary oversaw the very successful policing of the Bilderberg conference.

“The policing operation was designed and planned with the strategic intention to strike a balance between the rights of the public to hold peaceful protest, the safety and security of the conference and its delegates together with the right of the local community to go about their lawful business.

"Along with all other police forces in the country Hertfordshire Constabulary has a core policing duty to prevent crime, maintain the Queen’s Peace, protect the public and prevent damage to property."

Hertfordshire Constabulary said it was still counting the cost of the large security operation, which saw officers called on from other forces such as Essex, the City of London and Thames Valley.

The force confirmed organisers of the Bilderberg Group meeting were contributing to the costs and that it was also in negotiations with the Home Office over securing a grant for the operation.

Assistant Chief Constable Roome-Gifford added: “The total costs of the police operation are still being finalised, but details will be released as soon as they are known.”

Bilderberg conspiracies are 'absolute nonsense', Ken Clarke insists after being called to Parliament over secret meetings
Commons Speaker John Bercow grants urgent question
Meeting in Watford also attended by David Cameron and George Osborne
No.10 refused to give details of the Prime Minister's 'private meeting'
Attendees include politicians, top business executives and royalty
Heavily-guarded event is the focus of conspiracy theorists
U.S. radio host Alex Jones was branded an 'idiot' on BBC's Sunday Politics

Questions: Senior minister Ken Clarke has been summoned to the Commons to answer questions about the Bilderberg Group, of which he is an elected member
Ken Clarke today dismissed conspiracy theories about the secretive Bilderberg Group conference as 'absolute nonsense'.
And in a thinly-veiled swipe at Commons Speaker John Bercow, he said he could not believe he had been dragged to the Commons to comment on an event held by a private organisation.
The senior minister attended the Bilderberg meeting with David Cameron and George Osborne last week, but Downing Street has refused to give any information about who they met or what was discussed.
Labour figures including Ed Balls and Lord Mandelson also attended.
Today Mr Clarke was called to the Commons to explain what happened at the four-day conference, after Mr Cameron once promised to lead the 'most open and transparent government in the world'.
Mr Bercow granted an urgent question from Labour MP Michael Meacher about the impact of the conference on government policy.
But in a reference to the internet conspiracy theories, Mr Clarke joked that if Mr Meacher 'finds something deeply disturbing abut this, might I suggest he finds a different group of people to exchange tweets with'.
Mr Clarke, minister without portfolio, is an elected member of the steering group which governs the the Bilderberg group.
In a dismissive statement to MPs, he said it was the 'first occasion for me as I have never previously answered a question in the House of Commons about a private organisation for which the government has no responsibility'.
He insisted that everyone who attended the conference did so as an individual and not representing any organisaton.
'We go there for the chance of having an off-the-record, informal discussion with the range of people you described, who are indeed distinguished but who are not remotely interested in getting together to decide anything.

'I always find it greatly adds to the depths of my understanding of what is being talked about and contemplated in parts of the States and Europe as well.'
And in a direct swipe at Mr Meacher he added: 'With the greatest respect, this is total, utter nonsense, and I would not normally regard you as the sort of person who would be taken in by this sort of rubbish.'
But Mr Meacher, an environment minister in Tony Blair's government, insisted there was something amiss.
'It is said by some, and indeed by you, that Bilderberg is a conspiracy - of course it's not a conspiracy.
'But at the same time 130 of the world's top decision-makers don't travel thousands of miles simply for a cosy chat.
'They have come here in order to concert their plans to deal with a particularly awkward stage in western capitalism and as such we, the public, are entitled to ask some questions and to hold them to account.'

Refusal: David Cameron and George Osborne both attended the meeting in Watford last week but will not say who they met or what aspects of government policy were discussed

Cunning plan: American protestor and Radio DJ Alex Jones sailed a protest barge right through the security zone at the Bilderberg group meeting, which attracts controversy every year

Disruption: Alex Jones protesting from his barge, challenging security measures surrounding the event
Famous for being shrouded in secrecy, the Bilderberg conference took place in Britain for the first time since 1998 and conspiracy theorists believe this is where leaders plot world domination.
In an extraordinary clash on live TV yesterday, US radio host Alex Jones was branded an 'idiot' by BBC presenter Andrew Neil after ranting about the conference and the American government 'disappearing people'.
The huge police operation drafted in to monitor the four-day event in Watford, which has previously attracted mass demonstrations, could cost the British taxpayer as much as £2million or more, it has been claimed.
Mr Cameron attended on Friday night, and took part in a discussion about 'domestic and global economic issues'.
He was invited as Prime Minister of the host country but today Downing Street refused to give any details of the people he met or any discussions which related to government policy.
'It was a private meeting,' the PM's official spokesman said.
'He attended Bilderberg on Friday. I don't have any more to add to that.'
Justifying the meeting on Friday, Number 10 said Mr Cameron thought it was an opportunity to discuss economic issues with senior ministers, business people and academics.'
Mr Jones, who floated a barge along a canal near the conference at the weekend, appeared on BBC1's Sunday Politics to discuss the event.
But he launched into a noisy rant about the theories available on his website about the U.S. government ‘disappearing people’, which led to him eventually being cut off by Mr Neil, 64.

Confrontation: U.S. radio host Alex Jones (right) was on BBC One’s Sunday Politics with Andrew Neil (left) to discuss the secretive Bilderberg Conference, which has been taking place over the past week near Watford
Andrew Neil ridicules American shock jock on BBC Sunday Politics

Mr Neil told him: 'You (Mr Jones) are the worst person I've ever interviewed. David (Aaronovitch), thank you for being with us. It's gone half past 11. You're watching the Sunday Politics.'
The presenter then added: ‘We have an idiot on the programme today’, before using hand gestures to indicate that Mr Jones had lost his mind, as the American continued to shout at him off camera.
Mr Jones had said: ‘Hey listen, I'm here to warn people, you keep telling me to shut up. This isn't a game. Our government, the US, is building Fema (Federal Emergency Management Agency) camps.
‘We have an NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act) where they disappear people now. You have this arrest for public safety, life in prison. It's basically off with their heads, disappear them.
Mr Cameron has made great play of his commitment to be more open about who he meets.
In 2010 he promised: 'We want to be the most open and transparent government in the world.'
Downing Street was forced to deny that Mr Cameron's decision to attend this evening ran counter to his pledge.
The spokesman added: 'The Prime Minister has always been clear about the importance of transparency, which is why this Government has taken a number of steps in terms of publishing more data, more information and making details of meetings available.
'We publish far more information on meetings than previous governments. The Prime Minister regularly has meetings with key ministers from other countries and with business people and others as part of his job.
'That doesn't mean that he is not determined to lead the most transparent government.'

'Outrageous': The huge police operation drafted in to monitor the four-day event, which has previously attracted mass demonstrations, could cost the British taxpayer as much as £2million or more, it has been claimed

Sweep: Police are seen to be doing security checks in bushes outside the hotel grounds
Since its inception in 1954, Bilderberg has held annual gatherings of 120-150 invited political leaders and experts from industry, finance, academia and the media, designed to 'foster dialogue between Europe and North America'.
The group describes the conference as 'a forum for informal, off-the-record discussions about megatrends and the major issues facing the world' and states that the private nature of the meeting allows participants to 'listen, reflect and gather insights' without being bound by the conventions of office or by pre-agreed public positions.
There is no detailed agenda, no resolutions are proposed, no votes are taken, and no policy statements are issued.
Several cars with blacked-out windows entered the gates of the Grove Hotel, near Watford, in Hertfordshire, were seen arriving the secretive meeting. Some were heckled by crowds of protestors outside.
It is thought billionaire executives from multinational companies such as Amazon and Google, high-ranking political figures and even members of royal families were among the 130 or so attendees.

Bilderberg Group: Tory Ken Clarke claims he'd forgotten he was trustee of shadowy organisation
10 Jun 2013 23:00
He, David Cameron and George Osborne were all among global political and business leaders who gathered for private talks

Veteran Tory Ken Clarke claimed today he had “forgotten” he was a trustee of the Bilderberg group as he was put on the spot about the shadowy organisation.

The Cabinet Office Minister, David Cameron and George Osborne were all among global political and business leaders who gathered for private talks last week.

Downing Street have refused to answer questions, insisting they were “private”, even though Mr Cameron was invited as Prime Minister.

Labour’s Michael Meacher told the Commons the group is the most powerful lobbying organisation in the Western world and ministers there should reveal what went on.

But Mr Clarke told MPs it was all “utter nonsense” and ridiculed Mr Meacher for having him hauled to the Commons.

However, the former Justice Secretary had a tougher time from Labour’s deputy chairman Tom Watson when he asked him to confirm that “he declared his trusteeship of the body that funds the conference to his permanent secretary when he was appointed by the Prime Minister”.

Mr Clarke replied: “I am looking that up, as I’d forgotten. I’m actually a trustee of the British Steering Group so will check.”

He added: “All I actually do is sit as a member of a committee and help to play my part in the organisation... that’s all I’ve ever done.”

Reading the reports of the Bilderberg Group meeting last week set me thinking : we need Bilderberg in Brussels.

The Bilderberg Group is the secretive annual conference of world leaders from the domains of business, politics, and finance. It met last week in the UK amidst controversy over exactly what was being decided behind closed doors. Some believe that the Group is a secret cabal which plots world domination. Others that it is just a forum for discussion.

Now, Brussels is in many ways the world capital of meetings. It’s what we do. All kinds of meetings. Working groups, strategy meetings, board meetings, trade association meetings, coalition meetings, Parliamentary meetings, seminars, roundtables, general assemblies… But we still have a lot to learn. I mean, Bilderberg meets once a year, for two days. And they manage world domination in that time. Now I’ve chaired and facilitated a lot of meetings in Brussels in my time. But world domination? In two days? Can you imagine if Bilderberg met in Brussels…

Look we really must get started, it’s twenty minutes past now – no, we had said registration at 0830, meeting starts at 0900 Mr Kissinger, you should know that by now…

Yes Mr Geithner, you can submit travel expenses – I think Mr Papalexopoulos is in charge of the money – yes, under the supervision of Mrs Merkel of course… no, Mr Flint we are not paying expenses in cash this year, nor in the form of off-shore credit derivatives – no, I don’t care if that is normal practice at HSBC…

First item on the agenda is our vision for global hegemony – yes, a point of order?

Well, yes, thank you Mr Davignon, so you would say that global hegemony is our mission, not our vision? Remember we did have our strategic vision working group look at this issue last – yes, sorry Mme Lagarde?

Ok, well I do accept that accurate translation of meeting documents in advance is essential if the meeting is to be a success – sorry, yes I think we had said six weeks in the original language but only three weeks for translations, no? Yes, thank you Mr Schmidt, it’s true that we could use Google Drive to share our meeting documents in advance, but there were some security concerns raised by Mr Ballmer on that one…

No, I have to defer to our governance working group on this one, we do have rules of procedure – EXCUSE ME, through the Chair please General Petraeus, I don’t know how you deal with interuptions in your organisation… oh, I see… well I suppose that is one solution, but we really don’t have the facilities for water-boarding here, so let’s just stick to the agenda shall we?

Look, we’ve been through this whole official languages / working languages debate several times already, I really don’t want to…

Yes, Mme Lagarde we did adopt that resolution about French being the cultural language of global domination, but English being the working language of oppression which helped us move forwards during that unfortunate episode with the monolingual lunch menus last time…

No, M. Trichet I was not minimising that for an instant – of course I appreciate the very delicate work of Carl Bildt in negotiating a compromise on that occasion, I think we did pass a resolution thanking him. Yes Mr Monti I am aware that you abstained on that motion because the pasta was not al dente…

If we can just get back to the agenda please? Now, Mr Blair, you had a point about vision and mission I think? Well, absolutely, of course we mustn’t forget about values in this discussion as well – MRS MERKEL!! Please stop sniggering whenever Mr Blair mentions ‘values’…

Yes, thank you President Barroso it’s true that we should define ‘hegemony’ more closely. No. No. No. Look: for the last time ‘hegemony’ does NOT mean ‘jobs and growth’. Hegemony means power. No, I don’t have a Portuguese translation for power Mr Barroso, but I’m pretty sure that Open Method of Coordination is not a synonym, nor is it an appropriate tool for global domination.

Mr Mandelson? Yes, it’s true that the role of soft power is greatly underestimated by some delegates, but I think that Mr Fu Ying has a point when he observed that ‘coordination’ is not the quickest route to ‘domination’…

And if you recall, Mr Barroso we decided not to call our strategy Global 2020 at the last meeting, sorry.

Yes Mr Cameron? You have a problem with the word ‘Global’ …? Look, we already removed all references to ‘European’ from the strategy document in recognition of your difficulties with the word… but if we are not global then what are we?

…well, in the spirit of compromise of course… perhaps we could call it the Bilderberg Vision for Global Hegemonic Coordination Within a Framework of Subsidiarity.

OK, well done everyone, let’s break for lunch shall we?

Reading the reports of the Bilderberg Group meeting last week set me thinking : we need Bilderberg in Brussels.

The Bilderberg Group is the secretive annual conference of world leaders from the domains of business, politics, and finance. It met last week in the UK amidst controversy over exactly what was being decided behind closed doors. Some believe that the Group is a secret cabal which plots world domination. Others that it is just a forum for discussion.

The security operation around last week’s Bilderberg Group meeting at The Grove hotel in Watford involved officers and equipment from a dozen forces.

As well as Hertfordshire’s own officers, police from the neighbouring force areas of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Thames Valley and the Metropolitan Police were present.

However, the nature of the security operation meant police had to be drafted in from as far afield as South Yorkshire, Leicestershire, Surrey and Sussex.

Also present were British Transport Police and the City of London force.

On Saturday - the busiest day with speakers Alex Jones and David Icke addressing the crowd - the protest area of The Grove was packed to capacity with 2012 people present.

Despite the crowds the three-day event saw just two arrests - one for drunk and disorderly behaviour and another for breaching the terms of the road restrictions around the venue - and is being hailed a success by the organisers.

Assistant Chief Constable Alison Roome-Gifford, who was the lead officer for the operation, said: "Between Wednesday June 5 and Sunday, June 9 Hertfordshire Constabulary oversaw the very successful policing of the Bilderberg conference.

"The policing operation was designed and planned with the strategic intention to strike a balance between the rights of the public to hold peaceful protest, the safety and security of the conference and its delegates together with the right of the local community to go about their lawful business.

"Along with all other police forces in the country Hertfordshire Constabulary has a core policing duty to prevent crime, maintain the Queen’s Peace, protect the public and prevent damage to property."

ow, here’s how Kissinger was depicted on June 8th by Guardian cartoonist Martin Rowson, in a cartoon about the annual meeting of the Bilderberg Group in Watford. (The Bilderberg Group is a policy forum consisting of influential people in business, finance and politics which consistently provides fodder for conspiracy theories due to the relative secrecy of the meetings.)

Here’s a closeup.

A few observations:

Though the Bilderberg meeting includes other former political leaders vilified by some due to their involvement in foreign wars, such as Tony Blair for instance, Rowson chose only Kissinger (A German-born Jew) to depict as having blood on his (oversized) hands – inspired, presumably, by his role under President Nixon during the wars in Vietnam and Cambodia.
Despite the antisemitic history of such caricatures – historically, the ’big hooked nose’ (often in conjunction with a sneering expression) on a Jew is typically meant to suggest his depravity - Rowson chose to include such a stereotypically exaggerated nose among Kissinger’s other grotesque features.
Rowson’s history at the Guardian includes cartoons which have employed similar motifs, including such facial features and the gratuitous use of blood to illustrate putatively sadistic Jewish behavior. Here’s one, titled “Mindless in Gaza”, of Ariel Sharon from 2001:

Additionally, to provide further visual context, here’s a collection of Nazi and Arab antisemitic depictions – focusing on the hooked nose and oversized hands – which CAMERA published during the row over Gerald Scarfe’s ‘Sunday Times’ cartoon. (Scarfe’s cartoon, which Rowson defended in an essay at the Guardian, is on the top right.)

Indeed, if you compare Rowson’s cartoon with the most extreme racist depictions of Jews in the 20th century it isn’t difficult to see the overlapping facial features. Here’s a side-by-side comparison of Rowson’s Kissinger with the infamous Nazi antisemitic caricature published by Julius Streicher’s Der Sturmer, titled ‘The Poisonous Mushroom’:

Whilst we’re not suggesting that Rowson was intentionally evoking such comparisons, the Guardian’s readers’ editor Chris Elliott, in a post responding to criticism over Steve Bell’s Nov. 15 cartoon depicting William Hague and Tony Blair as puppets being controlled by Bibi Netanyahu, wrote the following:

I don’t believe that Bell is an antisemite, nor do I think it was his intention to draw an antisemitic cartoon. However, using the image of a puppeteer when drawing a Jewish politician inevitably echoes past antisemitic usage of such imagery, no matter the intent.

The Holocaust and its causes are still within living memory. While journalists and cartoonists should be free to express an opinion that Netanyahu is opportunistic and manipulative, in my view they should not use the language – including the visual language – of antisemitic stereotypes.

Echoing Elliott, whether or not Martin Rowson had racist intent is not as relevant as the more fundamental point: that a cartoonist for a “liberal” broadsheet should possess the moral decency to strenuously avoid employing visual language which historically represented the major antisemitic motifs in the long and bloody persecution of Jews.

The Bilderberg Group, a secretive confab of politicians, economists, academics, and business leaders, met in Watford, England, over the weekend, and the BBC's Sunday Politics show was on it. For the uninitiated, the segment started out with a short primer on Bilderberg and its fascination for conspiracy theorists.

The fireworks started when host Andrew Neil introduced his guests for the panel discussion: Alex Jones, the conspiracy-minded alternative-media mogul, and Times of London journalist David Aaronovitch, who has written a book debunking conspiracy theories. It was about as calm a discussion as you'd expect. (Watch above — the conversation starts at the 3:40 mark.)

As soon as Neil asks Jones about Bilderberg — Jones is leading a protest of the gathering — the American radio host starts off full bore about fluoridated drinking water causing bone cancer. After Neil steers the topic back to Bilderberg, Jones rails against the euro and big banks, then charges that "Bilderberg is heavily involved in the E.U. plan and helped hatched it, and it is a Nazi plan."

Neil tries to foster a discussion by asking Aaronovitch about Bilderberg, and Aaronovitch asks Jones why he's still alive if the New World Order is so powerful and deadly, and he is its main antagonist? Jones says he has been threatened, but "they" don't want to make a martyr of him. The rest of Aaronovitch's banter is buried under Jones' interruptions.

Neil has finally had enough, telling Jones to "shut it." That really sets Jones off, and Neil finally ends the segment telling Jones he is "the worst person I've ever interviewed," telling the viewers: "We have an idiot on the program today." With Jones still screaming in the background, Neil circles his finger around his ear in the universal "he's crazy" sign.

Everyone took to Twitter for their postmortems of the program:

BBC Interview with Alex Jones Ends with Host Calling Him a Crazy Idiot
The always hermetic Bilderberg Group is currently holding its annual meeting in England, thus making it the perfect time for the BBC to host America's foremost raving lunatic, Alex Jones, purveyor of foil-hat-making message board Infowars.com.

Fresh from suggesting that this year's Boston Marathon bombings were a "false flag operation," Jones went onto the BBC program Sunday Politics to assert that the Bilderberg Group helped launch the euro currency after taking its cues from a Nazi plan for global domination.

Makes sense.

The show ended with host Andrew Neil calling Jones an "idiot" and telling him, "You are the worst person I've ever interviewed," and all as Jones howls, "No, you guys are crazy! Infowars dot com! Liberty is rising! Liberty is rising!"

Enjoy watching a sad man's televised delusional ranting as he creeps ever closer to the brink.

11:10am Thursday 13th June 2013 in News By Ben Endley, Senior reporter

Taxpayers could foot £500k Bilderberg policing bill
Taxpayers look set to pick up a policing bill of around £500,000 for the Bilderberg Group meeting in Watford last week.

Hertfordshire Constabulary revealed today that the overall cost of the operation was around £1 million and the Bilderberg Group has made a donation of £500,000.

Although, the force said it was still totting up the exact cost of the huge security operation around the three-day conference at The Grove and the protests it attracted.

Scores of officers from 12 forces were drafted for the operations, which involved roads being closed with anti-terror legislation and a no-fly zone being imposed over the area.

The conference saw Prime Minister David Cameron, Chancellor George Osborne and shadow chancellor Ed Balls attend along with other global figures such as IMF chief Christine Lagarde and former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.

Leading business figures were also represented with Google CEO Eric Schmidt, Peter Sutherland, the chairman of Goldman Sachs, and figures from Barclays and HSBC were also present.

The three-day protest around the conference passed off peacefully with police making only two arrests throughout.

It is still unclear what proportion of the policing costs, if any, will be shouldered by the constabulary as it is currently in negotiations with the Home Office over an emergency grant for Bilderberg.

At a meeting before the conference senior offices expressed confidence that the operation would be "cost neutral" for Hertfordshire taxpayers.

Residents of Hertfordshire directly fund the force with 10p of every tax pound collected in the county going to the constabulary.

Mandelson’s lizard, in bed with Michael Douglas, and sponsoring the Tube
Peter Wilby's "First Thoughts" column.
BY PETER WILBY PUBLISHED 13 JUNE 2013

As I write, the Bilderberg Group is holding its annual conference in Watford, which must be a shock after St Moritz, Switzerland, in 2011. As always, it meets behind closed doors and everything said is strictly off the record. The 140-odd participants, drawn exclusively from North America and Europe, are mostly top politicians, bankers and business people. The only journalists are from respectable, pro-capitalist organs such as the Financial Times and the Economist.

The combination of power and secrecy makes Bilderberg everybody’s favourite conspiracy. The right accuses it of plotting world communism and the left damns it for plotting anti-democratic global capitalist domination. Browsing the list of this year’s participants (one of the few things that the group publishes about itself), I was excited to discover “Peter Mandelson . . . Chairman, Lizard International”. I then realised I had misread “Lazard”. Sorry about that, Peter.

Why do these conspirators or lizards or whatever they are bother with an annual conference? Take Lord (John) Kerr. A former British ambassador to Washington and UK permanent representative at the European Union, he was the Foreign Office permanent undersecretary from 1997 until 2002. Since then, he has held directorships at Royal Dutch Shell, Rio Tinto, the Scottish American Investment Trust and Scottish Power. The likes of him and Mandelson don’t need to meet to plot world domination with top executives at Barclays, Microsoft, Amazon, Google and HSBC. They already run the world.

Revolving door
The Bilderberg Group and the latest lobbying scandals are both symptoms of what was described in early 2010 as the “far-too-cosy relationship between politics, government, business and money”. That was David Cameron, then in opposition. If he was ever serious about reform, he isn’t now. Otherwise, his proposals for legislation, hastily drafted after the press made allegations that MPs and peers were willing to accept money from lobbying companies, wouldn’t conflate control of lobbyists with the quite different issue of union funding of Labour.

The problem goes far wider. Politicians, leading public servants and business and finance executives now have attitudes and interests in common. We are moving closer to having a constantly revolving door between government and the private sector, as the US does. The latest example is Dave Hartnett, the former head of HM Revenue & Customs, who is now a consultant for Deloitte, auditor for Vodafone, one of the companies he was criticised for allegedly letting off from paying a large chunk of its taxes.

Over the past decade, numerous other ministers and officials have taken their “expertise” to the private sector – for instance, Charles Clarke and Jacqui Smith, both former home secretaries, became consultants for KPMG. What worries me is not only that the status and contacts of ex-Whitehall figures may win favours for their new employers but also that, while supposedly working for us, ministers and civil servants have an eye on future prospects. No wonder every government finds more services to privatise in the name of efficiency and also finds itself paralysed when it comes to corporate tax avoidance.

So here is a modest proposal: if ministers or civil servants take paid jobs in the private sector after leaving office, they should forfeit their gold-plated public-sector pensions. ( continued)
