Diana dumped me for Dodi, says heart surgeon

The heart surgeon Hasnat Khan, who has been described as the one true love of Diana, Princess of Wales, has revealed at the inquest into her death that she had broken off their relationship.

He contradicted earlier claims at the hearing he had ended the two-year affair because he could not tolerate the publicity attached to her celebrity status.

Hasnat Khan refused to give direct evidence via video-link

In a written statement read to the court Dr Khan, who refused to give evidence via a video-link from his home in Pakistan, said that she had broken it off after returning from a holiday with the family of Mohamed Fayed.

Dr Khan said after the holiday he suspected that she had "met someone else from the Mohamed al Fayed contingent".

He added: "I did not know who it was. It could have been a bodyguard or anyone. At a second meeting, she said it was all over between us, but she denied there was anyone else."

The first he knew about her relationship with Dodi Fayed was when he read about their deaths in the Paris underpass.

Dr Khan, who the Princess called Mr Wonderful, was the most serious relationship since her separation from the Prince of Wales three years earlier.

The pair went to great lengths to keep it secret. She left messages for him at the hospital where he worked using the name Dr Armani.

He has spoken only once about their relationship. The couple met in the summer of 1995 through her interest in the life-saving surgery being carried out at London's Royal Brompton Hospital.

The only problem in the blossoming relationship was the media . They would meet at Kensington Palace or at his home, which were the only places where photographers "could not get to us".

In one of their attempts to avoid detection, the Princess wore a black wig on a visit to Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in Soho.

Dr Khan recalled how when they went to a pub she asked if she could order the drinks because she had never done so before.

He said he only discovered afterwards that the Princess had asked her butler, Paul Burrell, to talk to a priest about the feasibility of them marrying in secret.

"I thought it was a ridiculous idea," he said. "She just said everything would be all right. That was her answer to everything - it will turn out all right."

While he had no idea what the Royal Family would make of her marrying a Muslim, he knew that her mother, Frances Shand Kydd, who had accused her daughter of acting like a "whore", would have been opposed.

Dr Khan, who was introduced to Princes William and Harry, said that if they had married he would not have expected her to have converted to Islam.

His only concern would have been which religion to bring up any children they had.

Dr Khan said the Princess was concerned about her personal safety but "not paranoid" about it. But she had changed her car because she feared the brakes of her Audi had been tampered with.

She believed one of her protection officers had been murdered and that her telephone lines were being monitored.

Dr Khan said he had never heard anything to suggest she was mentally unstable.

He said he did not think the Princess was going to marry Dodi Fayed after only a few weeks of courtship, and expressed surprise at Mohamed Fayed's claim that she was pregnant because she had always been very particular about taking contraceptive pills during their relationship.

Dr Khan also dismissed the conspiracy theories around her death.

The Princess was always complimentary about the Queen, he said.

"Although she did not like the Duke of Edinburgh, she never expressed any fear of him," he added.

"I think it was just a terrible accident, but I am very surprised she was not wearing a seatbelt. She was always very particular about putting her seatbelt on."

I was waiting for you to post this. Shame that you don`t make a personal comment. Confused

It is contradictory, that Diana thought so much of Khan, that after a few weeks with Dodi, she was able to tell Khan it was all over. I`m sure that Diana was very careful taking her pills during her time with Khan. He felt a strong responsibilty to his family, culture and religion....this would have stifled Diana....and this would have hit home after a short time with Dodi.

Khan does not explain where his relationship was with Diana. But Khan`s evidence does give us a clue. Khan ""suspected"" that Diana had found someone else. If things were cool between Di and Khan. Maybe she stopped taking the pill and deliberately left the packet on her bed....as a witness testified. However, as I pointed out in an earlier post, taking your pill and leaving the packet on the bed seems unlikely. Why would you take the pill and put the packet on the bed and not in the bedside draw, or bathroom? IF Diana left the pill packet on the bed, this was likely done to mislead.

Khan offers another clue about her death (murder). Khan said Diana was very particular about wearing her seatbelt. The only survivor was Trevor Rhys Jones, and he was belted up. However, from accounts I`ve read, and these accounts have been "censored" on BBC forums when I posted them (I wonder why Cool). They suggest Diana was walking wounded and pictures exist showing Diana walking in the tunnel and sitting in the back of an open doored ambulance, in fact, Dodi may have also survived, as this account claims, a "specialist" (CIA term for assassin) was waiting in the tunnel, he reached into the Mercedes and broke Dodi`s neck...just to make sure he was dead....now, this does not quite tally with a witness account. This witness account said a motorbike with pillion stopped near the crashed car, the pillion walked over and lent in through the window and then looked back at the bike rider, giving him the thumbs up....job done. Cool

It certainly looks like Diana was surrounded by so called friends who were in reallity, working for the SIS. Cool
