Many Christians believe that the tribulation is a future period of time that will be marked by unprecedented evil and persecution (Daniel 12:1). They contend that the antichrist, Satan's chosen world leader, will brutally torture God's people during this period (Revelation 13). In turn, God will unleash his wrath upon the antichrist and his followers during this period (Revelation 8:2-9:21). The tribulation will culminate in the battle of Armageddon, in which Christ will defeat the antichrist and his forces, a victory which will set the stage for Jesus' kingdom.
Some Christians don't believe that the tribulation described in the book of Revelation refers to a specific time period. Instead, they see the tribulation as a symbolic term for the constant conflict between good and evil that has existed throughout history. These Christians don't believe the evil and persecution will increase in the last days. Rather, they believe that the church of Christ will gradually convert the world and usher in Jesus' kingdom.[I don't believe that! TG]
Those who view the tribulation as a specific period of time generally agree that it will last seven years - from the rapture of the church - to the Second Coming of Christ. Some Christians go so far as to divide the tribulation into specific sections. They base these divisions on the prophetic writings of Daniel 9:24-27.
The first half of the tribulation - the first three-and-a-half years - will see the seven seal judgments (Revelation 6), the seven trumpet judgments (Revelation 8-9), the ministry of the two witnesses (Revelation 11:3-6) and the rise of the antichrist and his forces (Revelation 12:3, 13:1 and 17:12). The middle of the tribulation will be marked by the death and resurrection of the two witnesses (Revelation 11:7-13), the persecution of the Jewish nation (Revelation 12:1-6), the death and resurrection of the antichrist (Revelation 13:3-4) and the antichrist's defilement of the temple (Daniel 9:27, 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4, Matthew 24:15). The last part of the tribulation will include the seven bowl judgments, the battle of Armageddon (Revelation 19:11-21) and the conversion of Israel (Romans 11:25-27).
Whether or not you believe apostle and gospel author John's roller-coaster Revelation is God-inspired you can be sure of one thing: fanatical Christian Right, war-hungry leaders & other fakers are looking at it closely, so that they can compare their own plans and reinterpret the shocking events of Revelation. They plan to use the media to spin themselves as the good guys. See un-Biblical, racist 'Zionism' for example.
In the first century, the apostle John's day, the noise of galloping horses' hooves hitting the ground inspired fear. It was the ominous sound of an enemy's approach. So when John described four horsemen who would begin the process of unleashing judgement (tribulation) on the earth, the familiar but awful sound of approaching horses would have been ringing in his readers' ears. In Revelation 6, John describes them. The first rides a dazzling white horse; the second, a fiery red horse; the third, a black horse; and the fourth, a deathly pale horse. Each one has a mission related to the Passover lamb's (Jesus') breaking of the first four seals of judgement up in heaven.
During the Tribulation two pairs of opposing human figures are set to feature prominently in world affairs. The antichrist (eg. Revelation 11:7 and 13:3) and false prophet (Revelation 16:13; 19:19-20; 20:10), satan's political and spiritual world puppets. Opposing them will be the two witnesses of God (Revelation 11:3).

There are lots of problems with the present day 'Church'. Professional paid preachers are not biblical, membership of occult groups such as the freemasons is widespread amongst Church of England and other establishment clergy. [see 'Freemasonry' by John Lawrence, Gazelle books, 1999] Churches have invested in weapons companies, talked down to the congregation, they used bad translations of the Bible, miss out important Books and Chapters of The Bible.... The Church is described by many as a building not as God's people. For these and many other reasons I seek out genuine participatory gatherings for fellowship.

Jesus was a sensitive and genuinely popular teacher, as well as the long-prophesied son of God. How strange then that 'Christians' today are often portrayed by the mainstream media to seem intolerant and even dictatorial. Genuine Christians are often labeled 'fundamentalist'. Does that mean that because they study the Bible themselves, as opposed to having it spoon fed to them in 'church', they are somehow less trustworthy? In reality Christians tend to fall into two categories: those such as 'crusading' killers, masonic clergy, moneygrubbing charismatic 'evangelists' who use Christ's name as a cloak of legitimacy; and the genuine, quiet and simple followers of Jesus and his teachings.
The books of Daniel and Revelation are the natural starting point for many End Times scholars and researchers. Or Old Testament Prophets Ezekiel 7, Jeremiah 25, Daniel 10 and Zephaniah 1 to be a bit more specific. Revelation fleshes out Daniel's visions and describes God's final harvest or 'threshing' of mankind vividly.

Not enough Nazarene Christians understand the significance of the passover - of being covered spiritually in the blood of the lamb of God. God asked the Jews in Egypt to set themselvses apart from the pagan Egyptians by marking the lintels of their doors with the blood of a sacrificed lamb.
The modern midrashic equivalent of this is to be spiritually prepared by being covered in Jesus' blood. As Barry Smith (see below) said before he died, there are three ways to be prepared for the evil to come.

One thing I found out on a visit to Brussels a couple of years ago amazed me somewhat. You're no doubt aware that the woman riding the beast is a symbol of the end-times empire described in Revelations. Imagine my surprise when I arrived at the European Commision to see a statue of a woman riding a beast overlooking the plaza at the entrance. Apparently this is Europa - from the greek myth of the same name and an official symbol of the EU.
One more thing, the beast carries ten horns - horns denote power - and upon the horns crowns - crowns denote kingdoms. Little known, but true, is this - The EU has a military arm called the WEU which is sheduled for ursurping NATO's role in the coming years as a global police force. Guess how many member states there are - that's right - 10 - check out their flag at http://www.weu.int - The WEU is comprised of this permanent ten member core and no additions are to be made to this core - instead it has numerous non-permanent members. If they do become a global military power then we are certainly in end-times territory in a big way!
Is satan a servant of God?
A wicked world leader who exalts himself as Jesus' adversary, brings about the tribulation, and is defeated at Armageddon. The antichrist is also identified in Scripture as 'the beast' (Revelation 13:1-18; 19:19-20), 'the man of sin,' 'lawless one' or 'man of destruction' (2 Thessalonians 2:3-4, 9-10) and 'a little horn' (Daniel 7:8-27). Only John's letters use the term 'antichrist' (1 John 2:18,22; 4:3; 2 John 1:7).
Also known as the 'second beast' he seduces the world into worshipping the antichrist (Revelation 13:11-17). The false prophet performs astonishing miracles, which include causing idols to speak (Revelation 13:11-15). He attempts to force people to worship the beast by allowing only those who have the 'mark of the beast' to buy and sell.
Sent by God to proclaim the Good News to non-believers (Zechariah 4:12-14; Revelation 11:3-4), the two witnesses have miraculous powers, similar to Moses and Elijah (Revelation 11:5-6). At the end of 1,260 days, they are killed off by the antichrist, who desecrates their dead bodies by leaving them to rot in the city of Jerusalem (Revelation 11:3-10). Three days after their deaths the witnesses are raised to heaven. As a result of this miracle many people believe in God (Revelation 11:11-13).
Day in and day out we live our lives as if there will be a tomorrow... another day to do our chores and pursue our dreams. But The Bible says that one day this world will come to an end. We will no longer live out our lives as we had before. No one knows the day or hour when the world will end (Mark 13:32) instead he simply warns us, "Be on your guard" (Mark 13:23)
Many of the signs predicted in scripture involve 'Israel'. Passages like Isaiah 11:11-12:6; Ezekiel 20:33-44; and Zephaniah 2:1-3 deal with the regathering of Isreal. People who are most concerned about staying abreast of the 'signs of the times' always keep a watchful eye on the Middle East and Temple Mount in particular.
The Bible tells us in some detail what signs will indicate that the end is drawing near. The increase in warfare, tyranny and the rise of false prophets are only some of these signs.

The word 'Tribulation' comes from the Latin word 'tribulum' meaning a 'threshing board' used at harvest-time.
An Earthquake. Fiery hail. Devastating wars. After that, widespread death and persecution. This is only the beginning of the misery this world will have to suffer during a special period called The Tribulation, or the period of "terrible suffering" (Revelation 7:14). Jesus had quite a bit to say about the end of the world. He could see into the future, knew how the world would end and gave his followers a hint of what would come. He painted vivid pictures of what will occur at the end of world history for his disciples and ultimately for us. Here is what he said:

The pale horse ushers in the tribulation proper: A peace treaty brokered by the antichrist begins the seven year Tribulation - Three and a half years in that treaty breaks down and the antichrist declares himself to be god - explaining the suffering as peoples' unwillingness to bow to his will
All heaven pauses. Before God's work can be completed on earth a mysterious scroll must be opened. All of heaven awaits the only person in heaven or on earth who is worthy to open the seven seals of the scroll-Jesus Christ, the lamb of God. The opening of each one of these mysterious seals wreaks destruction and havoc on earth.

Seven angels carrying seven trumpets will introduce God's judgment on the earth. Each trumpet blast produces unprecedented destruction on the earth and unspeakable misery for its inhabitants. With each successive trumpet blast the agony and the suffering of the earth's population increases.

God's judgment on the world climaxes with the seven bowls of wrath. The final toll of death and destruction in the wake of these judgments is nearly impossible to comprehend. The world will never be the same after these bowls of fury are poured out on the earth and its inhabitants

Have you ever dreamt what living with God in eternity would be like? Fluffy Clouds? Golden Halos? Streets of Gold? What will it be like to enjoy God's presence? In other words, what will heaven be like? The apostle John caught a glimpse of heaven in a breathtaking vision of New Jerusalem. This was part of the book of Revelation, when Christ brought a vision to him at the end of the first century on the Greek island of Patmos, when John was an old man.
In addition to the stuff below there are Christ's words from John 14:2: 'In my father's house there are many places to live... I am going there to prepare a place for you.'

There may come a time in your life, when you sicken of this world's sham of 'progress' and seemingly purposeless existence, when you hear a voice within say: "There has to be more to life than this."
Are you ready to be born of the Holy Spirit, or 'born again?' [John 3:3 and 3:6]
If so, dear reader, find a quiet place where you can be alone with God. Take the time to accept the precious blood of Jesus Christ. The promise is one you make in your heart to Jesus, it doesn't have to happen at an evangelical rally with thousands of spectators (praise God!).

Flavius Josephus is regarded as the premier first century Jewish historian. His writings have been quoted by hundreds of authors, including many of the world's most respected scholars. Josephus came from a priestly family and became a Pharisee at the age of 19. He was appointed Commander of the Jewish army under Roman occupation. After the rebellion by the Jews, Josephus was captured by the Roman general Vespasian. During this time, Josephus became a great historian.
Although Josephus lived after the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, he was closely associated with the experiences of that generation. In his book, Antiquities of the Jews, Josephus makes a statement that is contested by those who reject the existence of a historical Jesus. Here, Josephus writes:
Now, there was about this time Jesus, a wise man, if it be lawful to call him a man, for he was a doer of wonderful works -- a teacher of such men as received the truth with pleasure. He drew over to him both many of the Jews, and many of the Gentiles. He was [the] Christ; and when Pilate, at the suggestion of the principal men amongst us, had condemned him to the cross, those that loved him at the first did not forsake him, for he appeared to them alive again the third day, as the divine prophets had foretold these and ten thousand other wonderful things concerning him; and the tribe of Christians, so named from him, are not extinct at this day. (Book 18, ch. 3)
This statement by Josephus has been the center of considerable debate and controversy. Those who reject its authenticity contend that these words were not written by Josephus but rather were added by the Christian church in an attempt to strengthen its argument that Jesus was real and that He was the Christ.
There is, however, a credible authority which can shed considerable light on this issue. William Whiston is a scholar who translated the works of Josephus into English. Whiston provides the following observation concerning the authenticity of Josephus' words regarding Jesus.
Since we meet with several important testimonies in Josephus, the Jewish historian, concerning John the Baptist, the forerunner of Jesus of Nazareth, concerning Jesus of Nazareth himself, and concerning James the Just the brother of Jesus of Nazareth; and since the principal testimony which is concerning Jesus of Nazareth himself has of late been greatly questioned by many, and for me who has ever declared my firm belief that these testimonies were genuine, to set down fairly some of the original evidence and citations I have met with in the first fifteen centuries concerning them; and then to make proper observations upon that evidence, for the reader's more complete satisfaction. (The Works of Flavius Josephus, Appendix p. 815)
Whiston went on to explain that after exhaustive examination of Josephus' writings, he concluded that the texts being questioned were, in fact, genuine. He drew this conclusion because their style was consistent with that found in Josephus' other writings.
Whiston also provided a list of highly respected historians who quoted the writings of Josephus and considered them authentic regarding John the Baptist, James, and Jesus Christ. These authors included Tacitus in 110, Justin Martyr in 147, Origin in 230, Eusebius in 324, Ambrose in 360, Hieronym in 400, Isidorus in 410, Cassiddorus in 510, Anastasius in 740, and Johan in 850.
Whiston further pointed out that it would be impossible to have such a volume of honorable and accurate testimony regarding John the Baptist and James, whose lives were predicated on the life of Jesus, and then refuse to accept same testimony regarding Jesus who was of greater importance than the other two. (p. 819)
Those who contend that Josephus' reference to Jesus is spurious do so because the words appear to convey that Josephus embraced Jesus as the Christ. However, William Whiston explains that such a conclusion is a mistake.
'This was Christ', or [the] Christ, does not mean that this Jesus was the Christ of God, or the true Messiah of the Jews; but that this Jesus was distinguished from all others of that name, of which there were not a few, as mentioned by Josephus himself, by the addition of the other name of Christ; or that this person was no other than he whom all the world knew by the name of Jesus Christ, and his followers by the name of Christians. (The Works of the Jews, Appendix 819)
Whiston went on to explain that Josephus was not conveying his belief in Christ but rather that Christians were named from "this Christ." According to Whiston, if Josephus was a true believer, this passage would have required a much fuller explanation. Additionally, it is important to understand that Josephus wrote for both the Greeks and Romans and that this particular audience would not have understood who he was referring to if he simply used the name "Jesus." Therefore, according to Whiston, Josephus used the term "Christ," not to convince others that Jesus was the Messiah, but only to differentiate Him from other historical figures with the same name. Whiston then added that all other historians who wrote for the next several centuries understood that Josephus was not a believer.
Josephus' approach was similar to that of Pontius Pilate during the time of Jesus' crucifixion. According to the scriptures, Pilate ordered a sign to be posted upon Jesus' cross. The sign bore the words: "This is Jesus, king of the Jews." The fact that Pilate ordered this sign did not mean he believed Jesus was the king of the Jews. He only placed it there because he was provoked by the Jewish leaders who brought charges against Jesus. These leaders wanted the sign to read that Jesus claimed to be king of the Jews. However, because of his exasperation with these Jewish leaders, Pilate refused to have these words changed (Jn. 19:19-22).
It is important to understand that there are other manuscripts concerning the works of Josephus. An Arabic manuscript has been found and translated which makes the controversial passages found in Josephus easier to understand. This Arabic translation reads as follows.
At this time, there was a wise man who was called Jesus. His conduct was good and (he) was known to be virtuous. And many people from among the Jews and other nations became his disciples. Pilate condemned him to be crucified and to die. But those who had become his disciples did not abandon his discipleship. They reported that he had appeared to them three days after his crucifixion, and that he was alive; accordingly he was perhaps the Messiah, concerning whom the prophets have recounted wonders.
Here, the translation adds clarity to the meaning of Josephus' words. Based on this translation, Josephus is simply recounting that Jesus was a good man and his followers taught that He was resurrected.
The works of Josephus are not the only Jewish writings that identify Jesus of Nazareth. The Babylonian Talmud includes a section in which Jesus is mentioned by the Jews to have been hanged from a stake on the eve of the Passover.
On the eve of the Passover Yeshu was hanged. For forty days before the execution took place, a herald went forth and cried, "He is going forth to be stoned because he has practiced sorcery and enticed Israel to apostasy. Any one who can say anything in his favor, let him come forward and plead on his behalf." But since nothing was brought forward in his favor, he was hanged on the eve of the Passover. (The Babylonian Talmud, vol. III, Sanhedrin, 43a, p. 281)
In addition to Tacitus, Suetonius, Phlegon, and Josephus, other prominent historical figures make mention of the biblical Jesus.
Thallus wrote about Mediterranean history during the middle of the first century. Although there are only fragments of his writings today, one such fragment relates what happened at the crucifixion.
On the whole world there pressed a most fearful darkness; and the rocks were rent by an earthquake, and many places in Judea and other districts were thrown down.
This description of events surrounding the crucifixion is totally consistent with the gospel record. Consider the words of Matthew.
Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour... And, behold, the veil of the Temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent... (Mt. 27:45, 51)
Pliny the younger was a Roman author who at one time served as governor of Bithynia in Asia Minor. He was concerned about the rapid growth of Christianity and its potential for threatening the beliefs of Rome. Because of this, he wrote the emperor to explain how he interrogated those he believed were Christians. Pliny related that if those he interrogated would not worship the emperor, he would have them executed. In some cases, he would torture them to gather information about the emerging Christian movement. In one such case, he tortured two deaconesses and wrote to the emperor concerning the information he had gathered.
They [the Christians] were in the habit of meeting on a certain fixed day before it was light, when they sang in alternate verses of a hymn to Christ, as to a god, and bound themselves by a solemn oath, not to any wicked deeds, but never to commit any fraud, theft or adultery, never to falsify their word, nor deny a trust when they should be called upon to deliver it up; after which it was their custom to separate, and then reassemble to partake of food - but food of an ordinary and innocent kind. (The Tenth Book of Pliny's Letters)
When Pliny referred to "food of an ordinary and innocent kind," he was addressing a rumor regarding Christianity. This rumor was that Christians took the symbols (bread and wine) Jesus introduced at the Passover as literal and would secretly meet on certain occasions and actually eat human flesh and drink human blood.
Justin Martyr was a second century philosopher and theologian. His parents were pagans; however, after a study of the Old and New Testaments, Justin Martyr converted to Christianity. He was executed during the reign of Emperor Marcus Aurelius because he refused to offer sacrifices to the pagan gods.
Justin Martyr wrote about 150 A.D. In one of his writings, he explained that the events of Christ's crucifixion could be validated by the report of Pontius Pilate.
And the expression, "they pierced my hands and my feet" was used in reference to the nails of the cross which were fixed in His hands and feet. And after he was crucified, they cast lots upon His vesture, and they that crucified Him parted it among them. And that these things did happen you can ascertain in the "Acts of Pontius Pilate." (First Apology XXXV)
Although the "Acts of Pontius Pilate" referred to by Justin Martyr is no longer in existence, it was also referred to by Tertullian. Both Tertullian and Justin Martyr believed that this was an official Roman document.
It is interesting to note that there were two archives kept in ancient Rome. One consisted of the minutes of senatorial meetings; the other consisted of correspondence sent to the emperor from various parts of the empire. Any correspondence from Pontius Pilate to Tiberius would unquestionably belong to this second archive.
In spite of the early secular world's hostility toward Christianity, there exist many historical documents to verify that the biblical Jesus actually lived. Further, these documents prove that his followers believed very exact details concerning His life and teachings as well as His crucifixion and resurrection. Few ancient historical figures can boast of the amount of material that Jesus of Nazareth had written about Him. In addition to the gospels, there is the book of Acts as well as numerous epistles. On top of all the Biblical evidence, sits a crown of numerous historical documents. These documents are totally consistent with the writings of the New Testament.
Whether it was the writings of Tacitus, Suetonius, Phlegon, Origin, Thallus, Justin Martyr, Josephus, or even Pontius Pilate, the existence of the Biblical Jesus is unimpeachable. Jesus of Nazareth did live and His life had a powerful impact on the course of history.

We live in the golden age of archaeology. The last 100 years have yielded more inscriptions and artifacts than the previous 6000 years of recorded history. Until recently, due to the paucity of extrabiblical evidence, skeptics often posited arguments from silence. In other words, if there is no physical proof, how can we know that it existed or happened? These arguments were perhaps best answered by William Dever, head of the Archaeology Department at the University of Arizona who succinctly responded, "Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence." We need no longer rely on Dever’s maxim. We now have, in the words of Josh McDowell, "evidence that demands a verdict" or to borrow a metaphor from criminal justice vernacular, we have a gospel "smoking gun." The inscription which has rocked the world this Christmas season reads as follows:
James, son of Joseph, brother of Jesus (Ya 'Akov bar Yosef akhul diYeshua) The discovery of this seven word Aramaic inscription (without the punctuation marks), firmly dated to the mid-first century A.D., is a watershed moment in the study of the backgrounds of early Christianity. What the Dead Sea Scrolls were to the study of Second Temple Judaism, this inscription is for the study of the primitive Christian church. Hershel Shanks, the editor of Biblical Archaeology Review (BAR) whose bimonthly periodical announced this dramatic story on October 21, 2002, stated that, "The James ossuary (bone box) may be the most important find in the history of New Testament archaeology." Andre Lemaire, a specialist in ancient inscriptions, first identified the ossuary inscription after an invitation from its intentionally unidentified private owner. The owner acquired it fifteen years ago for a few hundred dollars from an antiquities dealer who claimed it was unearthed south of the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem’s Silwan region, an area famous for its ancient tombs. Lemaire dates the inscription to 63 A.D., only 33 years after the crucifixion of Jesus! One can only wonder what ossuary would bring at auction now that the inscription is known..................

by Yeshua (Jesus)
Following is a partial list of the Old Testament prophecies pertaining to Yeshua's first coming, along with the New Testament locations reporting their fulfillment by him.
Space does not permit showing why each of these prophecies should be understood as referring to Yeshua the Messiah. Many books discuss this subject in detail, mentioning other Old Testament prophecies which point to Yeshua. [See appendix IX of The Life and Times of Jesus the Messiah, 2nd ed. (New York: Anson D. F. Randolph and Company, 1884), by the Messianic Jew Alfred Edersheim, in which a list of 456 Old Testament passages messianically applied in ancient rabbinic writings is supported by 558 quotations from those writings. Besides prophecies there are incidents in the Old Testament which function as pictures in advance, or "types", of Yeshua. What is known in Judaism as the "binding", the near-sacrifice of Isaac by Abraham, is explicitly called a type of Yeshua the Messiah at Hebrews 11:17-19. The life of Joseph provides another example: his brothers tried to kill him, but in the end he saved them from death, even though they did not recognise him at first. This does not mean that Genesis 22 contains a "prophecy" that Yeshua would be raised from the dead, or that Genesis 37-45 states that the Jewish people, as a nation, would initially reject their saviour. Rather it shows that God's salvation plan unfolding itself in history has a unity determined by him from the beginning to be consummated in Yeshua the Messiah. Indeed Yeshua himself explained it this way to two of his disciples at Luke 24:25-27.

*The Hebrew word 'almah' in Isaiah 7:14 means "young woman", and in the Old Testament always "a young woman of unsullied reputation", which is why the Jewish translators of the Septuagint, the Greek version of the Old Testament prepared 200 years before Yeshua's birth, rendered this word into Greek as 'parthenos', "virgin"; this is the word used at Matthew 1:23.
**The Septuagint (see above) has: "They pierced my hands and my feet", implying the Hebrew word 'karu' in its source text. However the Masoretic Hebrew text, accepted as standard in orthodox Judaism, has 'k'ari', and the line reads, "Like a lion, my hands and my feet"
